Clarion Defence and Security announces that SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, will be the official beneficiary charity for DSEI 2017, the World Leading Defence and Security event.
Established in 1885 as the Soldiers, Sailors, Aircrew and Families Association, SSAFA is committed to ensuring service men and women, veterans and their families receive the best practical, emotional and financial support when it is needed most.
As the DSEI charity partner, SSAFA will co-host the official opening reception on 12 September. The reception draws senior military and government officials from the UK and overseas, as well as many members of industry, providing the charity with unparalleled opportunities to raise awareness of the work it does to a global audience.
Duncan Reid, Event Director for DSEI, said, “We have supported SSAFA for many years, and are proud to continue this support today. The charity tackles some of the toughest issues for ex-service personnel, dealing with both mental and physical injuries, and it also looks beyond the personnel to their families, providing crucial care for those dealing with loss or in need of social, financial or healthcare advice and support. We are delighted that we can help SSAFA in its fundraising endeavours throughout the year and to maximise opportunities for such a worthy cause at one of Clarion’s flagship events”.
Rally for Heroes, a driving challenge across Europe, where every five miles covered represents each service person who has made the ultimate sacrifice for their country since the start of the Afghanistan conflict, raises money for SSAFA. They will be exhibiting on stand N4-245 at DSEI 2017, while SSAFA staff will be situated at the catalogue sales points, with proceeds from catalogue sales dedicated to the charity.
James Grant, Head of Corporate Fundraising and Events at SSAFA, responded, “Clarion’s ongoing support for SSAFA is incredibly important to us. The event itself is a key date in our calendar as we look to raise much needed funds, raise awareness of the crucial work that we do and meet more potential supporters of the charity. Away from the event, the DSEI team also volunteer with us, having recently spent a day gardening at SSAFA’s Royal Homes, where we provide independent living to women with a forces connection, such as widows and daughters of those who used to serve, along with ex-service women. Their sponsorship of our Corporate Friends scheme is also invaluable, as it allows us to continue building support from industry through a series of networking events with speeches from influential individuals from the Ministry of Defence and Government.”
