  • Interview with Roald Otnes

    01-Jun-2016 by: Jonathan Arrowood
I will describe the concept of easily deployable underwater sensor networks, exemplified by the demonstrator system “NILUS MK 2”. In such a concept, relatively small sensor nodes are dropped onto the sea floor where they detect passing targets and report the detections through an underwater communication system. I will include results from sea trials with our demonstrator system, and discuss potential operational benefits. Read More
  • Looking forward to ITEC 2016, MS&T Business Manager Chris Richman spoke with BAE Systems’ Neil Stewart, Chair of the Conference Committee. MS&T is the lead media partner to the event. Read More
  • M&S as a Service for Cyber Defence has its own breaking-points regarding the creation of simulation environments for real-life attack and defence models.  Answers to the questions such as "Why are we forced to use virtual simulations rather than constructive ones?" and "To what extent may the current cloud or virtualization technologies help us create an environment on demand?" will be explored. • To date we are capable of suggesting a real environment to trainees using simulators quite well in a number of conditions.  However, the more extreme these conditions get, the less real the virtual environment becomes.  Moreover, operation in extreme conditions is typically taken apart in bite-size chunks and trained using isolated simulation environments Read More
  • The main changes to be faced by Navies are the global political situation, operational circumstances, political focus and influences from society.

These changes call for flexible operating Navies, agile, anticipating on developments, multi-purpose ships, modular build up crews, cost efficient operation but still with the required Operational Readiness. The traditional way of looking at the Material and Personnel Readiness is a ship with its own complete crew. Ship and crew are subdued to a respectively maintenance and training cycle. However, material and personnel readiness are 2 separate elements. When combined and with the right operational training it results in a unit with the desired Operational Readiness.

  • Interview with Lt Col Sergio Peres, Brazilian Army

19-May-2016 by: Lt Col Sergio Peres
The simulation budget has been reduced over the last 12 months. In the Brazilian Army, we are trying to show to the decision makers the benefits of using simulation for training. We are endeavoring to present to the authorities all the simulation training modalities aiming to increase the simulation budget within the Brazilian Army. Read More
  • Interview with LTC Jan Hodicky, NATO M&S COE

A buzzword that echoes down all E&T corridors last years; Hybrid Warfare; hasn't brought so far such a vast changes in the S&T community. More than finding common understanding of that phenomenon, we should be focused on the future threats and mainly its mixture in the complex and dynamic scenarios.    Read More
  • Interview with Lieutenant Colonel Rolf Thielmann

19-May-2016 by: Lieutenant Colonel Rolf Thielmann
The German Armed Forces are on the way to realize a competence-based approach to individual and team training. In my presentation I will introduce the idea of this approach and will inform the audience about our program at various military schools to test our concept in selected trainings. Read More
  • Interview with Captain Bill Roto Reuter

19-May-2016 by: Captain Bill Roto Reuter
The advances in technology, both hardware and software, have given rise to even higher fidelity and realism.  This is allowing for even more training to be conducted in the synthetic environment and in some cases, even better than the live environment! Read More
  • Aviation operations are very demanding due to their very complex environment made of advanced systems requiring fast reaction on decision making. So the training should be even more demanding in order to  let the operator able to proper respond to the situation. Our approach consists of training the human brain to manage the stress in such complex situation in order to take the right action. Read More
